Singapore Ong Boon Kong Fowls and Beasts Painter
1948-2022. Born in Fujian Putian. Migrated to Singapore at an age of 11. At very young age already interested on painting and painting of tiger.
He started learning carbon dust portrait painting from master Huang Ming Zhong, subsequently from Chen Zi Quan, Chen Zhong Rui and Chen Weng Xi. He is deeply fascinated by the tigers because of their fierceness and strength, also because his father was born in the year of Tiger.
His painting subjects are very broad, apart from Chinese water colour on Tiger, he also painted leopard, lion, cat, gibbon, squirrel, deer, buffalo and horse. For fowls include eagle, Singapore wild fowl, sparrow and duck. He also painted portrait and prewar buildings.
On the last decade, his new creation of combining Chinese water colours and ink by hard pen, this has produced three dimensional and life-like effects especially on animal with hairs. He likes to paint black ink eagle, buffalo and horse with different heavy to light ink tones to express the their spirit. He also involved in oil painting with quite a number of fine large size creations.
